Narrative Lectionary Year 4, Week 3
Invocational Prayer
Father in
Heaven, we come seeking your blessing as we worship you. We confess having sought blessings in the
wrong places, but we now know that we can proclaim “the Lord is in this
place!” As we praise you this morning,
we ask the Son of Man to send His Spirit upon us. In His name.
Amen.
Prayer of Preparation
God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob: we are here to see the vision that you want us to see. As we have heard the Holy Word read, we seek
you now in the preaching of that Word and we desire to know you better through
it. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Jesus Christ, our
Messiah. We want to see even greater
things for your kingdom than have been already seen. We pray that your Church here on earth would
be your body and house. In order for you
to increase, we must decrease, and so we humbly share of our riches so that
others may become spiritually richer through it. In your name.
Amen.
Intercessory Prayer
God of all who dream:
some are like Jacob, running from the problems they’ve created, knowing not
what joys or troubles they might find when they get to the places they
seek. Others are like Nathaniel,
faithfully following you and seeking to know you more intimately. Yet all might face problems and need to know
that you are in the place that they are.
We pray this morning specifically for the people we’ve named in our
hearts and those we’ve mentioned here.
We pray for all who have needs of any sort. There are some who mourn and dream of having their
loved one to be back with them, some who need financial help, some who dream of
mental health resources that provide stability, some who dream of doctors and
hospitals that provide cures, some who dream of legal protection from injustice,
some who dream to be protected from abuse, some who dream of sobriety through rehab,
some who dream of safety for the tasks at hand, and some who dream just of
having guidance. Whatever their dream as
they seek, you, O Lord, are the source of that.
May their dreams bring them to the sure and certain knowledge that the
Son of Man has been sent into the world to offer all of this and may they
believe so that they can see the great things He has offered. We pray it knowing that He is our mediator
who hears our prayers and prays with us as we join in the prayer He has
taught. Our Father… Amen.
Benediction
May we not flee
from our troubles
But instead see
that God is inviting us to walk with Him through them
And let us see
that although it appears up a steep staircase, it will be easy with
The love of Jesus Christ,
The grace of
the Father,
And the
fellowship of the Spirit.
Amen
