Prayer of Preparation
God who is I AM: we are here on holy ground.  May the things we hear today be as clear to us as the voice that spoke to Moses from the burning bush so that we may know what you desire from us as we follow you.  Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob: you sent your servant Moses when you saw the misery of your people in Egypt, when you heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, when you were concerned about their suffering.  We ask now that you would see the misery of your people in this time, that you would hear the cries of the people today, and that you would be concerned about the suffering we bring now before you.  Suffering that is caused when people hurt others, suffering that is caused when nations fight against other nations, suffering that is caused when people are ill and when they die, suffering that is caused by our sins and the sins of others.  We know you hear and we know you are aware.  We know that the day will come when you will return and make this world new.  We know that you sent your Son to alleviate this suffering and we give you thanks in His holy name as we pray His prayer.  Our Father… Amen.

Benediction
The Lord has promised to be with us as we go to His children.
Go with the message of Good News that He gives to the world.
The message of Love, Grace, and Unity in Father, Son & Spirit.
Amen.

Luke 10:1-9; Psalm 96

This post did not follow either RCL or NL lectionaries.  A missionary visited the church and the resources were based on text they selected for the service.

Prayer of Invocation
Lord of all families; Lord of all nations; Lord of the whole earth that trembles in front of your glory:
We pray to you that as we prepare to hear how your glory is proclaimed and your marvelous deeds are recounted to all the nations that you would open our hearts and minds to the sharing of your work.  Let us rejoice with the heavens, the earth, the sea, the fields, the trees, all of creation, and all that is in it because of the Lord’s salvation that is promised to all who have heard and believed when He comes in His day.  We thank you for the salvation that is prepared for us and pray that we will be among those found righteous.  In the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN.

Intercessory Prayer
Lord of the harvest:
We pray to you now for the needs of every town and place where you have sent us.  We know that you will enter into these places in your glory and that the nations will tremble.  When that time comes and you have judged with equity, righteousness, and faithfulness, and all are giving you the praise due for your glory and strength, and all in the earth, the seas, the fields, and forests are made new and all humanity sings a new song, all will be made right in your sight.  Until then, we struggle with the sufferings named here today before you and we lift each of them up to you asking your mercy on each person in need.  We lift up to you the missionaries that go into the harvest field as lambs among wolves that you would protect them and that they would be welcomed.  May the Gospel they share heal the sick of the disease of sin as they hear the news that the Kingdom of God has come near as they bring the life-giving work to the harvest.  We pray your blessing on the laborers of the field and give you thanks for your great goodness to all.  In the name of the Risen Lord and Savior, we pray together Our Father… Amen.

Great Thanksgiving
Christ our Lord invites all to his table who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin
and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Let us pray…
Blessed Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray to you our confession of our sins.  Sometimes when you have called, we have ignored the call to be sent and have not gone into the places you wish to go to carry the message of the gospel.  In doing this, we cause the number of laborers in the harvest field to be even smaller.  Meanwhile, we remain comfortable in our first-world country with our clean water, our plentiful food, our overstuffed homes, our technology, and our riches.  Meanwhile, we are blissfully unaware, or intentionally practicing an out-of-sight, out-of-mind mentality about the third-world countries where medical care is primitive, hygiene is lacking, hunger is common, poverty is the norm, and even safety from abuse and persecution is sometimes a commodity to be bought and sold.  Forgive us, Lord, we pray, for our sins against fellow man when we fail to reach out in Christian love.  Forgive us for these sins against you and our fellow man.  Magnify our Christian love for those who are amongst us that hunger and thirst for not only the day of righteousness, but also the basic necessities of life.  Hear and forgive also the sins we now confess in silence... AMEN

Hear the Good News:
The Lord of the Harvest has told us that the Kingdom of God has come near.
It has come near to you because you have asked His forgiveness and believed in your heart
That He is the God of Salvation, most worthy of your praise.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God. Amen.

As a forgiven and reconciled people, let us offer ourselves and our gifts to God
As we ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name
Bringing an offering into his courts that is dedicated to the workers in the field

Let us pray:
Lord we give you thanks for these missionaries to India among us.  We pray your blessings upon them increase and that peace will rest upon them as they enter the houses where they go.  We pray that the people they visit will provide them with food and drink and support.  We give of these gifts as a token of our support to them and pray that they will be help proclaim the message of the Lord coming near.  In Jesus Name, AMEN.

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,
always and everywhere to give thanks to you,
Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

When our first father and mother whom you placed in the Garden disobeyed
It caused sin to enter the world
You sent us from the Garden, telling us that ground would produce thistles and thorns
And that the working of the ground would cause us to be painful and sweaty.
You told us that the dust of the ground would be the dust to which we would return.
When the descendants of Noah sinned and tried to bring honor to themselves,
You scattered the peoples amongst the world and confused their languages.
Resultantly there are some nations that did not know you.
When you sent your prophets among your people and reminded them
to welcome the stranger, they did not.
But you sent among us the Lord of the Harvest
He showed us what the working of the ground should look like.
What the harvest should be like
And that harvest is the harvest of souls who will,
with all your people on earth and all the company of heaven
praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ,
Who is the Lord of the Harvest
Sent among us to teach us, love us, and be our salvation
Therefore, we escape the return to dust and we are raised up forever.

It is because by His
baptism of suffering, death, and resurrection
you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.
You raised Him up to the splendor and majesty
The strength and glory of His sanctuary
  At your Right Hand.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread,
gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:
"Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me."
When the supper was over he took the cup,
gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
"Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving
as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,
and on these gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
Which is the fields of harvest
until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father (God), now and for ever.
Amen.

Amongst the fields are grains and grapes:
The grain is the Body of Christ that is broken for you.  Take and eat.  Amen.
The grape is the Blood of Christ that was poured out for your salvation.  Take and drink.  Amen.

Benediction
Go out two-by-two to every town and place
it is the harvest field and you have been sent
to proclaim the Kingdom of God is near.
Sing to the Lord the new song
praise His name
proclaim His salvation
declare His glory
tell His marvelous deeds.
For the Lord God
the Son of Man
and the Holy Spirit
reign forever and ever. AMEN.

Narrative Lectionary Year 4, Week 3

Invocational Prayer
Father in Heaven, we come seeking your blessing as we worship you.  We confess having sought blessings in the wrong places, but we now know that we can proclaim “the Lord is in this place!”  As we praise you this morning, we ask the Son of Man to send His Spirit upon us.  In His name.  Amen.

Prayer of Preparation
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: we are here to see the vision that you want us to see.  As we have heard the Holy Word read, we seek you now in the preaching of that Word and we desire to know you better through it.  Amen.

Offertory Prayer
Jesus Christ, our Messiah.  We want to see even greater things for your kingdom than have been already seen.  We pray that your Church here on earth would be your body and house.  In order for you to increase, we must decrease, and so we humbly share of our riches so that others may become spiritually richer through it.  In your name.  Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
God of all who dream: some are like Jacob, running from the problems they’ve created, knowing not what joys or troubles they might find when they get to the places they seek.  Others are like Nathaniel, faithfully following you and seeking to know you more intimately.  Yet all might face problems and need to know that you are in the place that they are.  We pray this morning specifically for the people we’ve named in our hearts and those we’ve mentioned here.  We pray for all who have needs of any sort.  There are some who mourn and dream of having their loved one to be back with them, some who need financial help, some who dream of mental health resources that provide stability, some who dream of doctors and hospitals that provide cures, some who dream of legal protection from injustice, some who dream to be protected from abuse, some who dream of sobriety through rehab, some who dream of safety for the tasks at hand, and some who dream just of having guidance.  Whatever their dream as they seek, you, O Lord, are the source of that.  May their dreams bring them to the sure and certain knowledge that the Son of Man has been sent into the world to offer all of this and may they believe so that they can see the great things He has offered.  We pray it knowing that He is our mediator who hears our prayers and prays with us as we join in the prayer He has taught.  Our Father… Amen.

Benediction
May we not flee from our troubles
But instead see that God is inviting us to walk with Him through them
And let us see that although it appears up a steep staircase, it will be easy with
The love of Jesus Christ,
The grace of the Father,
And the fellowship of the Spirit.
Amen

RCL Daily Readings, Year B

John 8:21-38
Psalm 128
Eccl. 5:1-20

Prayer of Invocation
Read Psalm 128
Lord God, the Psalmist tells us that there are blessings for those who fear the Lord and that those blessings will be given to the next generation as well.  Lord we pray today that our fear of you would increase in reverence and faith so that your creation will be cared for by the generations to come.  Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
God of Abraham, who begot the Son of Man so that His inheritance of eternal life could be given to those who believe, you have heard our prayers.  We pray a thanksgiving for the redemption that you have given us out of your great love and grace.  We pray also especially for the children and the children of the children to come of this world tonight.  May they be blessed through the faith of this generation.  May our belief be so great that we, as the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, put an end to the suffering in this world that is caused by sins of the world.  May there be an end to economic problems and political discord.  May there be an end to suffering caused by addiction and abuse.  May there be an end to discrimination and inequalities.  May there be an end to violence and war.  May your power and miracle, O Lord, heal physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual unhealthiness that people feel and experience.  We pray it in the name of the Anointed One who has taught us to pray Our Father… Amen.

Great Thanksgiving
Read Eccl. 5:1-20
Christ our Lord invites all to his table who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin
and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Let us pray…
Son of Man who was lifted up for our sins, we confess now before you our sins in silence...
We confess our unbelief that you have gone before and welcome us to the place in heaven that you have gone.  We confess that we have been rash with our mouths.  We confess that we have not always reached out to the poor and the oppressed or defended those whose have inequality of rights.  We confess that our own love of money has an impact on how we reach out to those who have less as we try to build up treasures here instead of in the kingdom.  We confess that we make our work more important than yours.  Hear our prayer o Lord and forgive.  Amen.

Hear the Good News:
The Son of Man has promised that those who believe will not die in their sin.
Because you have believed you are set free from your sins.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God. Amen.

When we turned away and gave ourselves over to the evil of the world
by taking what was forbidden, we lost our connection to you.
When we turned away and did not see that you had already given us a place
where fruits were plentiful, we lost our provision from you.
When we turned away and did not love others as you love us,
we damaged our relationships with others
And through it we put ourselves into bondage to sin.
But you sent your Son out of your great love so that we could see
that He was making all things right in the world and reconciling our connection to you.
And so,
with all your people on earth and all the company of heaven
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ,
  who was sent from above
who was with you from the beginning
  who taught by your authority
who the world proclaims is the Messiah that through
Through His baptism of suffering, death, and resurrection
you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.
At his ascension you exalted him
to sit and reign with you at your right hand.

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving
as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,
and on these gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father (God), now and for ever.
Amen.

This is the body and blood of Christ,
by it you are set free from your enslavement to sins.
Eat and drink.  Amen.

Benediction
His blessing is upon you
Take His blessing to the world
So that the children and the
  children’s children
  in generations to come
  will be blessed by
The Love of the Father
The Grace of the Son
And the Unity of the Spirit.
Amen.

John 1:29

Prayer of Invocation
God as we have spent the time this week preparing to come here into your presence this morning to offer our worship and praise, there are times we may have been distracted.  But now, we ask that you will make us ready to hold nothing back from you so that we can hear what you want us to learn today about you.  Amen.

Prayer of Preparation
God as we have spent the time this week preparing to come here into your presence this morning to offer our worship and praise, there are times we may have been distracted.  But now, we ask that you will make us ready to hold nothing back from you so that we can hear what you want us to learn today about you.  Amen.

Offering Prayer
Wonderful Savior, you offered yourself up as the Lamb of God for us.  You sent your angel to Abraham to test if he trusted your provisions.  We bring to you our offerings with prayers that the sacrifice we make is acceptable in your eyes and that you will bless these gifts for use by your church.  Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
God who provides, we cannot imagine the agony of a situation that Abraham found himself in, asked to make this sacrifice.  We cannot imagine the confusion that his son, Isaac, must have felt as he realized what was happening.  We cannot imagine the anger that the wife, Sarah, might have known if she had heard what Abraham was planning.  Yet, each day, there are familial relationships damaged by the actions and choices people make.  For families who are hurting, Lord we pray to you.  If that hurt is caused by death, by illness, by abuse, by addictions, by mental health, by economic problems, by divorce, by separation due to circumstances of business travel, imprisonment, or military service.  Or for hurts that are caused by any other thing, Lord we pray to you.  And Lord we ask that you provide to each of these in our prayers today.  May the ram caught in the thicket be visible to them so that they realize that even in their troubles they can worship you, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  We pray, Lord, for all these troubles, using a prayer that you taught that is prayed throughout our world in every language. Our Father… Amen.

Benediction

Benediction
Go now with trust for our God
Hear Him
See what He shows you
Follow where He leads
Worship Him without holding back
For He is Jehovah Jireh who provides
For He is the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world
For He is the Spirit who speaks to us in our time of need. Amen

RCL Daily Lectionary Year B

John 7:25-36
Psalm 119:169-176

Prayer of Invocation
O Lord, our God, we gather together this evening for this time of worship through prayer.  We know that you have told us whenever two or more are gathered in your name, you are with us.  But do we always recognize your presence?  Do we seek and not find you?  Allow us to see your glory in this time that we may know more of your holy ways and your will for us.  O Lord, our God, through your Son, Jesus Christ, and by the power of your Spirit, we pray today. Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
By the authority of the Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been sent to us.  He has done signs and wonders before us, including His glorious resurrection so that we can gain new life by His hand.  We are here tonight because we are seeking Him.  We are thankful that we have seen His glory and will be able to join in His feast of the resurrection.  But we pray tonight for these that have been named before you, Our Lord, with the sure and certain confidence that you have heard the prayers and you can and will bring resurrection to all who recognize your Son as the Messiah.  And so Lord, we conclude our prayers for those that are named asking that your Holy Spirit would be upon them now so that they will know your peace and will call upon your holy name as well.  We pray it with the prayer that your Son has taught us saying together… Our Father… Amen.

Great Thanksgiving
Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin
and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

 Read Psalm 119:169-176 in unison

 Let us pray…
O Lord, our Messiah:
  we know who has sent You into this world;
  we know the signs you have performed;
but we confess that we are sometimes still looking for you in the wrong places.
And so we come before you asking that we will understand
asking that you will hear our prayers of confession
asking that we will be able to praise you with our lips
asking that we will be able to sing about your righteousness with our tongues
asking that you will be there to help us.
We are sometimes lost sheep who do not recognize you and we fail to believe.
But we know your commands and with your help, O Great Shepherd,
we will be brought back to you.
And so we confess in silence our sins before you now.

Hear the Good News:
The Messiah has come
The Messiah has performed great signs
The Messiah has gone before us into heaven and makes a place for us
Because you have believed you can follow Him to where He is

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God. Amen.

You created the world and all that is in it,
you created us to have dominion over it,
in order to maintain the goodness and order,
But we turned away and failed to even recognize you,
despite having revealed yourself in the desert in flame and smoke
despite having spoken through the prophets
and so you sent your Son into the world
to teach us and order all things so that we can be reconciled to you.
And so,
with all your people on earth and all the company of heaven
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ,
who by your authority, who by your anointing, who by your sending
has taught us all things and shown us what it means to love by His example.
Living waters that quench the thirst of His people flow from Him so that

By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection
you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.
At his ascension you exalted him
to sit and reign with you at your right hand.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread,

"Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father (God), now and for ever.
Amen.

This is the body of Christ, the bread of life. Take and eat. Amen.
This is the blood of Christ, the water that flows from Him to forgive our sins.  Take and drink. Amen.

Benediction
Seek no more
For you have seen our God
He is here with us and He gives to us:
His Love
His Grace
And Unity of His people
Through Father, Son, and Spirit,
Amen.

Genesis 1:1-2:4a, John 1:1-5, Psalm 148

Sept. 12, 2021
Narrative Lectionary Year 4, Week 1

Genesis 1:1-2:4a
John 1:1-5
Psalm 148

Opening Prayer
Read Psalm 148
Creator God; the Son who is Word who has spoken all things into existence; and Spirit who hovered over the deep: we do praise you for all that you have done and continue to do and we pray that this time will be honoring to you.  Amen.

Prayer of Preparation
Our Savior Jesus, King of all this world that your Father created, we come to you now asking your Spirit to be with us as we learn about how you, as the Christ, can return order to the chaos that we have made from your creation.  Amen.

Offertory Prayer
From the first day, O God, you have wanted to make all things good and to put order into this world.  We have made, and we continue to make a mess of it.  But through your Son, Jesus Christ, and through the work of His Holy Church on Earth, we have an opportunity to make things better.  May the gifts we bring to this congregation today begin to set things right, at least in this community, so that more people can know your love and grace and find the goodness that you offer.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Intercessory Prayer
Light of the World, we come before you now, with gratefulness in our hearts for the grace you have shown in reconciling our spirit to your Holy Spirit that is allowed to us by the love of the Father.  After You created this world, establishing order and goodness, we exercised our free will and chose sin, we caused the darkness to return.  However, we trust the Gospel Good News that you can and will return order and goodness to the world.  We ask particularly that this goodness would come to all who we are praying for at this time.  We lift up to you the ones we’ve named and the ones we remember in our hearts.  We lift them up to you as they suffer in sickness, grief, anguish, anxiety, discomfort, and pain.  We lift them up to you as they are caused harm by others.  We lift them up to you if their own misdeeds bring harm upon them.  We lift them up to you even if they have harmed others and need to repent.  We do this with the full confidence that our prayers are heard and answered in your timing and will, praying out loud together as you’ve taught. Our Father… Amen.

Benediction
May the rest of this day be a day of rest from your labors,
In honor and praise of God who also rested from His work.
God is blessing you and sanctifying you because
you are His creation, made in His image and likeness,
And, therefore, He has called you very good.
Through the grace of God
Through the love of Jesus
And through the communion of the Spirit
This goodness will be with you all your days. Amen
